ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to Capital Development Authority (CDA) and National Highway Authority (NHA) seeking their reply over a petition against toll plazas charging tax from locals. A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Riaz heard a petition filed by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) against the toll plazas for charging residents of Islamabad.
The PTI through its lawyer made the CDA and NHA respondents for charging tax from the residents of federal capital. The petitioner contended that it was totally unjustified to charge toll tax from the locals, who have to move in and outside the capital twice or thrice a day.
The petitioner contended that CDA in totally illogical and unjustified way had been collecting tax from locals. He prayed that locals be given exemption from tax. After hearing arguments, chief justice issued notice to respondents and adjourned the hearing till March 7.
