Doctors to launch movement for salary increase

LAHORE – Doctors have announced a nationwide movement to demand a special salary raise for all doctors working in government hospitals in the country, Pakistan Medical Association office bearers said in a press conference at the PMA House on Monday.
Various organizations including PMA, YDA, PDA and MTA have been taken into confidence and first phase in which posters and pamphlets were to be distributed has already been accomplished, they said, adding that a provincial convention has been called on March 28 for the same.
The government has been asked to announce a special package for HOs, PGs, MOs, SRs, teaching cadre, specialists, general and administrative cadre to stop the brain drain, however, it was expected that only the salary of young doctors will be increased which was unacceptable, they said, demanding that all vacant seats of grade 17 to grade 20 especially the 4000 seats of medical officers should be filled through Punjab Public Service Commission and specialists, SMOs and regular assistant professors be promoted.
The PMA has invited all organizations of doctors to be a part of their national protest movement.
Dr Ashraf Nizami, Dr Tanveer Anwar, Dr Izhar Ch, Dr Akhtar Rashid Malik, Dr Ehsan ur Rehman, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Salman Kazmi and Dr Khalid Ch addressed the occasion.
