LAHORE – Law Minister Babar Awan has said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would respond to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after the PPP ministers’ removal from the Punjab cabinet. He said the rulers in “Punjab must keep in mind that PPP will not let any one highjack democracy with the help of turncoats”. He reiterated that the PPP would not allow rule of turncoats in Punjab.
He said there were many clauses in the constitution that obstruct lotacracy.
Awan said the PML-N wanted to keep ruling in Punjab by wearing the ‘garland of lotas’, adding that the PML-N was replaying the politics of 1988 with a gang of Changa Manga.
The law minister said Nawaz knew well that the PPP would win Senate elections to be held in 2012, adding that the PPP government would complete its constitutional term and “there will be no mid-term election”. “If any one thinks about mid-term elections, he should keep doing that, as there is no bar on dreaming on,” he added.
Awan added that the PPP believed in pursuing reconciliatory politics and its leadership had decided to give an appropriate political response only after the PML-N actually parted ways with the PPP in Punjab.
He said PPP would sit on opposition benches in the Punjab Assembly and play an active and vibrant role of opposition to make the Punjab government accountable.
Meanwhile, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watto told reporters at his residence that the PPP always adopted reconciliatory policies, but Nawaz Sharif did not respond positively.
Watto said people wanted political parties to work together for the benefit of the masses and wanted the process of confrontation to stop. He said the president, the prime minister and the PPP tried to solve all national problems in consultation with other parties.
