Davis Cup team off to Hong Kong sans Rashid Malik

LAHORE – Pakistan’s Davis Cup team will leave for Hong Kong to play their Asia Oceania Group II tie against the hosts, relying mainly on the country’s star player Aismaul Haq Qureshi. The team, comprising Aisamul Haq, Aqeel Khan, Samir Iftikhar and Yasir Khan, had light training on the last day of the training camp under the supervision of non-playing captain Mohsif Zia and coach Rashid Malik.
But in a surprising move, PTF removed Rashid Malik and inducted Mohsif in his place as coach. When contacted, no PTF official was available for comment.
Earlier, Rao Akbar, President Model Town Club, late Thursday night honored the Hong Kong-bound Pakistan Davis Cup team by hosting a reception at Model Town K Club Lahore.
Rao Akbar and Secretary Imtiaz Ahmad wished the team good luck and hoped that they do their best to win the tie and bring a good name to the country, which is very important in the current circumstances. Akbar also awarded Rs 25000 Samir for his tennis gear and recognized his achievements. Samir, while talking to Pakistan Today, said that he will pay back by performing at the international level and thanked Rao Akbar for his gesture.
