‘Ancient ship’ to be salvaged with navy’s help: Culture DG

KARACHI – On the directives of the provincial Culture Minister Sassui Palijo, the newly appointed director general of the Culture Department, Muhammad Ramzan Awan has ordered the Thatta district administration to take appropriate measures for salvaging an ‘ancient ship’ – discovered in Thatta recently – with the help of Pakistan Navy authorities. Awan held an introductory meeting with his department officers on Saturday, where financial stipends to poets, artists and singers, and cultural activities and development projects came under discussion.
Briefing the new director general of various initiatives and activities of the department, Culture Director Dr Muhammad Ali Manjhi said the department promotes cultural activities in Sindh besides looking after and providing monthly stipends to various singers, poets and artists.
Awan said the officers concerned should expedite the matters pending with the Finance Department and resolve the stipend issue while taking concrete steps to ensure the release of funds. He also said that steps should be taken to have the summary for the treatment of TV artist Roshan Atta approved.
He directed that the officers should work with devotion and punctuality for the goodwill of the department.
