KARACHI – Concerned over the half-hearted efforts of government for bringing back stranded Pakistani fisherfolk in Yemen, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the government to take necessary action in this regard.
Human Rights activist Nisar A Mujahid in his petition had prayed the court to issue directions to the federal government to take necessary steps for the release of Pakistani fisherfolk imprisoned in Yemen. Citing the Interior secretary and the foreign affairs ministry as respondents, the petitioner accused the government of ignoring the issue, stating that at least 100 fisherfolk were arrested by Yemeni authorities and booked under several fake cases.
Despite many letters written to the federal government, it has failed to take any action, he submitted.
