Reaction to attack on Jalali exposes religious parties

LAHORE – The motives of the religious parties have been exposed by their reaction over the attack on Markazi Jamaat-i-Ahle Sunnat Chief Organizer Maulana Abid Jalali.
Hardliner Brelvi Maulana Jalali remained unhurt in firing by unidentified people in the wee hours of last Saturday in Gujranwala. When contacted, Maulana Abid Jalali told Pakistan Today that the attack could be a conspiracy of his own school of thought.
“I am exposing the teachings of Karam Shah, so his followers are after my life. In Lalamusa, these people openly hurled life threats on me in front of DSP Gujarat,” said Maulana Jalali. On Tuesday this scribe received another version about the incident from Sunni Tehrik divisional president Maulana Mujahid Abdur Rab Rasool.
He blamed Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, Jamaat-ud-Dawah and other Jihadi organisations. “People are being incited in the name of Jihad to attack Sunni ulema and mushaikh. Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, Jamaat-ud-Dawah and other Jihadi outfits are trying to mislead the young generation. Peace is our policy, not weakness,” said Mujahid Abdur Rab Rasool.
When asked why they had not been nominated in the FIR if these groups were responsible for the attack. This incident shows that one school of thought tries to malign the other religious sect by exploiting such events. It also indicates how some religious and political parties exploit such incidents for their own interests.
