VM Art Gallery showcases emerging talent

KARACHI – R emaining true to its commitment of encouraging innovative artists, the VM Art Gallery is holding an exhibition titled ‘9th Emerging Talent 2011’ that would continue until February 28, a press release issued by the gallery said.
This exclusive show of paintings, prints, sculptures and installations attempts to bring the best of thesis works under one roof, anticipating an exciting and interesting experience to motivate young artists.
The VM Art Gallery becomes home to art pieces created by young graduates from various art institutions around the country every year.
The art colleges being represented this year include Central Institute of Arts and Craft, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi School of Arts, University of Karachi, Centre of Excellence-Mehran University, Institute of Art and Design-Jamshoro, University of Balochistan, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Islamia University, Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Hunerkada, National College of Arts (NCA)-Lahore, University of Punjab, and NCA-Islamabad.
Each piece showcased is carefully selected to ensure that what is being presented is the best of the next generation of Pakistani artists.
It is the mission of the gallery to promote visual arts and educate the local audience about emerging Pakistani talent and the unique styles and movements that exist in the local art world.
These young artists provide the audience with new perspectives and address socio-political issues that plague the society today.
Making its debut at the Emerging Talent exhibition is the art form of video installation, and a total of three videos have been chosen – one from BNU and two from NCA-Islamabad.
The exhibition satisfies a wide array of art mediums – digital works, video installations, mixed media, sculptures, ceramics, serigraphics, calligraphics, portraitures, and acrylic and oil paintings.
