LAHORE – A seminar on Pak-China relations was held at Government College Township on Thursday. The college’s principal Dr Ejaz Butt introduced the seminar’s theme, which was on the year 2011 that has been declared as ‘Pak-China friendship year’, and said Pakistan needed to further strengthen ties with China.
He greeted the speakers which included senior political analysts and diplomats including Dr Farooq Hasanat, Col (r) Sikander Sultan Ghuman, Imran Iqbal, Dr Imtiaz Bukhari, Gen (r) Muhamad Iqbal and Director Colleges Naseem Akhtar.
Imran Iqbal pointed that Chinese were ‘pragmatic and rational’ and emphasised that China’s inclination towards Pakistan has been an offshoot of India-USSR liaison.Dr Farooq Hasanat emphasised the importance of ‘economic potential’ which would decide the world’s fate in the 21st century. He predicts that there will be a shift from local strategies to regional strategies in the future.
Col (r) Sikander Sultan Ghuman acknowledged that China supported Pakistan through thick and thin. He said that protests and marches in Pakistan have primarily been conducted to restore ‘personalities’ but Chinese have always focused on uplifting the nation. Dr Imtiaz Bukhari said that China’s role was ‘instrumental’ in restraining India to attack Pakistan.
Dr Butt thanked the speakers and the heads of the departments of various colleges who were present at the seminar. He also appreciated faculty members and students for attending the seminar.
