Lord Nazir visits Emergency Services Academy

Lahore – UK House of Commons Member Lord Nazir Ahmed visited the Emergency Services Academy on Friday and lauded the services of the Rescue 1122 particularly its response time of seven minutes and pledged support in capacity building of Rescue 1122 staff from the UK.
According to details, Nazir along with Councilor Jahangir Akhtar and Councilor Rotherhan Westward visited the Emergency Services Academy where he was briefed on various emergency training being imparted to rescuers. The British MP witnessed different practical training drills including urban search and rescue, smoke room entry, fire hose, ladder and fire hydrant fire fighting, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, spinal injury shifting protocol, practical exercises of wound and fracture management and rescue from height.
Punjab Emergency Services Director General (DG) Dr Rizwan Naseer thanked Nazir for the visiting the academy and requested his support for ensuring international standards of the Rescue 1122 through accreditation of the academy and capacity building of rescuers by foreign trainers. While addressing rescuers, Nazir said that he is impressed with the work and services of the Rescue 1122, which are saving lives and providing great services to the people.
The British MP said that it should be the responsibility of the Commonwealth to provide assistance to Pakistan whose people are suffering due to its war against terrorism and assistance be provided to the Rescue 1122 to face this great challenge. He said that the Rescue 1122 should also work for prevention of emergencies.
In this regard, the rescue service should be a statuary body to address problems, which are leading towards emergencies such as illegal construction of high-rise buildings, faulty vehicles on roads and unhealthy and unsafe practices of public, the MP said. He presented the idea of a public safety awareness campaign on the electronic media through a one-hour weekly campaign on all TV channels.
