ISLAMABAD – Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of mid-term or short term elections saying that the democratically elected government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will complete its tenure.
He said the government will not give up even one day of its term. Speaking at an oath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of the Press Association of Supreme Court (PAS) he said those who are aspirants of mid and short term elections should get themselves democratically elected in the next general elections and prove their two-third majority in the parliament and then go for legislation over the issue.
He said PPP-led government will change tradition by completing its tenure. He said the decisions taken in haste in political arenas are devoid of rationale as happened in election boycott decision of APDM during last elections. He said the people feeling estranged with the political process should not direct their grudge towards it.
He said the revolution had already taken place in Pakistan as there was not a single incident of political victimization in the country. He said the system of trichotomy of power would take some time in the country but there was no place for political turn coats. He said PPP government has stamped culture of lotacracy (turncoats) forever through the 18th Amendment.
He said the Indian courts had adjudicated upon many political cases, but political future of Pakistan’s politicians will be decided by the people. He said when PPP came in power, it had faced two enormous challenges such as the threat to government’s writ and restoration of superior judiciary but to their satisfaction, they managed both in amicable way.
