PESHAWAR – Denying external pressure, the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Governor Barrister Masud Kausar has said that government is handling militants according to its own strategies and policies.
“There is nothing immediate on the agenda regarding the action against militants in North Waziristan,” he told reporters on Wednesday during a dinner hosted in honour of senior journalists from Peshawar and office bearers of Tribal Union of Journalists.
Kausar said that the government wanted to restore peace in the area and was only conducting operations where they were required. Similarly, the government was also using political means to achieve its ends,he said, adding that there was no external pressure on the government in this regard.
Referring to drone attacks, Governor Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa reminded that government is unhappy with such attacks and considered it interference in country’s internal affairs. In this respect, he diverted attentions towards firm stance of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani against drone attacks. He, however, said that such attacks could be halted whenever the foreigners are flushed away from the tribal belt.
Barrister Masud Kausar has said that though he was associated with PPP, he was everyone’s governor now and wanted to bring the tribal region at par with the rest of the country. He thanked leaders of Awami National Party, Jamat Islami, Jamiat Ulema Islam and others who had reposed confidence in him.
