MNAs speak out against attack on Lal Chand

ISLAMABAD – Legislators across the board on Wednesday demanded stern action against a Jamshoro toll plaza staff that allegedly opened fire at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s National Assembly Member Lal Chand a few days ago. Chand told the National Assembly (NA) that the staff of the toll plaza shot at his car despite being aware of the fact that he was a member of the National Assembly.
His demand for action against the alleged assailants was backed by several parliamentarians. NA Member Manwar Talpur said that Chand had fortunately survived the shooting because he was on the rear seat of the car. He said that the incident could not be ignored. Religious Affairs Minister Khursheed Ahmad Shah said that those responsible should be brought to justice and sternly dealt with to ensure that no incident of a similar nature could occur in future.
Communications Minister Arbab Alamgir said that he had sent Motorway Police deputy inspector general to Chand’s aid shortly after the incident. He also condemned the incident and assured the NA that its decision on the matter would be fully implemented. Law Minister Senator Babar Awan said that a committee headed by the religious affairs minister would be formed to look into the matter.
NA Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundim said that the committee should submit the report presently.
