KARACHI – A local court on Wednesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in an accidental murder case.
KESC CEO Tabish Gauhar and three other senior officials of the power utility are facing charges of carelessness and negligence, owing to which a young man was electrocuted in Malir last year. FIR No 163/2010 was registered against them under Section 319 of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of the victim’s father at the Malir Cantt police station.
On the previous hearing, the court had issued warrants for the arrest of Gauhar due to his absence. On Wednesday, the power company’s CEO appeared before the court along with his lawyer and submitted a pre-arrest bail application.
Malir district and sessions judge Syed Kausar Ali Bukhari granted bail to the applicant against the surety bond of Rs100,000 until March 1. The charges against the other three officials of KESC, Zameer Ahmed Sheikh, Liaquat Ali and Abdul Hameed Bhatti have already been farmed and they are on bail.
