Girls’ school building in shambles

SIALKOT – Over 100-year-old building of Government Ahmedia Girls High School, located in the congested Buddhi Bazaar, the Imam Sahib locality of the city, is in shambles for all the roofs and walls of the classrooms have badly cracked.
The officials concerned of the education department have been unable to provide furniture for this school despite. Over 750 female students, who have to sit on the ground and shabby floors of the classrooms with cracked walls, are getting education while risking their lives. Their teachers are also facing this nasty situation.
The headmistress told newsmen that despite this pathetic situation, the school was producing 100 percent results. She said that this dangerous situation had been repeatedly brought into the notice of the officials concerned of the Sialkot Education Department, but to no avail.
Pakistan Muslim League-N central leader and MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif had got a special grant of Rs 5.6 million approved for this school, but the education officials could not utilise this grant and the funds lapsed.
Meanwhile, regular middle standard classes have not been started even after the lapse of 15 years at Govt Girls Elementary School Khewa Bajwa in Pasrur tehsil.
The residents have urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of it and ensure the early start of the delayed elementary classes at the school. When contacted, the education officials said unavailability of the teaching staff and other basic facilities, including furniture, were delaying the start of the classes.
KITE FLYING BANNED: District Coordination Officer (DCO)Mujahid Sher Dill has banned kite flying and the sale of kites in the revenue limits of the district under Section 144 of PPC. The DCO directed all the station house officers (SHOs) of the police stations in the district to ensure implementation of the ban in letter and sprit.
QURAN-KHAWANI FOR AZK SHER DIL held: Quran-khawani was held at the DCO house here on Thursday for the eternal peace of the late AZK Sher Dil (the father of Sialkot DCO Mujahid Sher Dil). A large number of the people from all walks of life and prominent religious scholars attended the ceremony.
