Lahore – The federal and Punjab governments will provide funds to universities for research and development projects, Punjab Governor Latif Khosa said on Thursday.
He was speaking at the launching ceremony of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences’ (UVAS) website at the conference hall. Khosa acknowledged and appreciated the performance of UVAS Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Nawaz. The governor said, “Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif is an energetic and visionary person who is taking keen interest in development of the education sector. Dr Nawaz is a man of integrity and working hard for development of the university.” He urged the youth to work hard with dedication and utmost devotion and bring back the past glory of Muslim scholars and scientists. “Never beg before others and make one powerful enough to standing besides developed countries,” the governor advised students.
Khosa asked students to explore the chances of indigenous manufacturing of biologics and medicines instead of importing multinational firms’ costly medicines, which would decrease the import budget of medicines.
The governor announced expansion of the university by establishing more campuses in other cities for development of the rural economy.
He also directed students to follow the golden principal of the Quaid-e-Azam, unity faith and discipline. Khosa said that it is his first visit to the UVAS and an honour for him that the varsity was one of the oldest veterinary institutions in Asia and upgraded to the level of a veterinary sciences college in 1905 and in 2002, converted into a university.
He said that within eight years, the UVAS had achieved growth especially in research and was contributing a lot to the economic development of the country. The governor termed that UVAS as the country’s best university.
Earlier, Khosa along with Dr Nawaz inaugurated a new academic block of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and visited the University Diagnostic Laboratory, WTO-Quality Operation Laboratory, Pet center, Snake House, Postmortem and Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology and appreciated the state-of-art facilities and laboratories.
