LAHORE – A large number of Punjab University teachers attended a rally organized by University Teachers Front here on Tuesday from IBIT to IBA against the behaviour of Academic Staff Association’s office-bearers. Earlier, a meeting was held in the auditorium of Institute of Business and Information Technology which received strong attendance.
The meeting condemned the false propaganda meted out against the Vice Chancellor and senior teachers by ASA President Maher Saeed Akhter and Secretary Iftikhar Tarrar. The participants were of the view that the ASA was protecting criminals in their ranks and was involved in a character assassination campaign against other teachers.
“Who gave the right to the ASA president and secretary to disrepute teachers”, they added. The participants unanimously agreed that they would decide on a line of action if the ASA didn’t stop sheltering teachers who have libeled against the teaching profession.
Addressing the meeting, a senior female teacher said she was ashamed about the support accused Dr Iftikhar Baloch received on the streets while the varsity administration received complaints of sexual harassment against him. The meeting passed a resolution condemning ASA’s false propaganda and demanded that ASA office-bearers tender apologies.
The meeting demanded university authorities discipline teachers brining disrespute to the university without delay.
