Rs 2.36bn development package announced for Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA – Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Iqbal Wahla has announced the implementation of district and city special package from March 15 in the division which will cost Rs 2.36 billion. He made this announcement while presiding over a review meeting attended by the district coordination officers and other officers concerned of all the six districts.
He told the participants of the meeting that the Punjab chief minister had been monitoring the schemes of this package personally, so the administrative heads of the districts and departments should take care of these schemes to stop any negligence or wastage of funds. He further said that 11 new schemes would cost Rs 550 million while Rs 200 million had been allocated for under-construction schemes in Gujranwala, Rs 700 million for 10 schemes in Sialkot, Rs 200 million for four schemes in Gujrat, Rs 200 million for a scheme in Hafizabad, Rs 200 million for five schemes in Mandi Bahauddin and Rs 200 million for four new schemes in Narowal.
Tenders have been released for 24 schemes and Rs 932 million sanctioned for the development projects, he added. The commissioner stressed timely completion of these projects and warned the respective of each district would be held responsible for any delay in the completion of the projects under this package.
FACTORY ROBBED OF RS 10M COPPER: At least 10 robbers robbed copper worth more than Rs 10 million from a factory after taking the guards hostage. According to the Eimanabad police, 10 armed robbers intruded into a factory in Eimanabad, tortured two guards, took both of them hostage, loaded 14,215 kilograms of copper into a truck and fled away.
BASANT BANNED IN CITY: The district coordination officer (DCO) has imposed a ban on basant in the district by promulgating Section 144 of PPC with immediate effect. The preparation of kites, nylon or chemical twine and sale of these items would also be prohibited under the law till further orders.
Troops leave for Ivory Coast: A group of 250 Pakistani troops left Sialkot International Airport for Ivory Coast to join the UN Peacekeeping Mission there as a part of routine relief and rotation of Pakistan contingents. According to an ISPR press release, Brig Abuzar who saw the troops off said that Pakistan Army had a glorious track record of rendering dedicated services for the restoration of peace across the globe.
He said the services of Pakistani blue berets to secure stability in Somalia, Eastern Slovenia, Bosnia, Haiti, East Timor, Congo and Sierra Leone had enhanced the country’s image in the comity of the nations.
