LAHORE – National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Inspector General Dr Wasim Kauser on Tuesday reviewed arrangements of safety helmet campaign started by N-5 Central Zone on national highways. He reviewed these arrangements while presiding over a meeting held at the IG Camp Office Thoker Niaz Baig Lahore and Islamabad. NH&MP DIG Syed Ibne Hussain was also present on this occasion.
Kauser said there was a need of raising awareness about benefits of wearing protective helmets for motorcycle crashes can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere, and at any speed and even casual falls could lead to life threatening injuries. Motorcyclists’ safety helmets were effective in preventing head injuries and were important to pillion riders as well since they suffer the majority of serious head injuries from motorcycle related accidents.
He said arrangements had been made on national highways to distribute printed material among commuters regarding road safety measures. Audio-visual aids and other communication methods will be used by guidance centre and mobile education unit to educate people about road safety measures. Flowers, sweet candies, chocolates, and briefing pamphlets will be distributed among road users on national highways to present a soft image of NH&MP and to create maximum awareness about dangerous consequences of not wearing safety helmet.
Kausar directed motorway police to ensure implementation on the campaign and gear up their efforts to minimize the motorcycle related accident ratio. He asked them to make their best efforts for the success of all road safety campaigns and directed all beat commanders to frequently visit their respective areas to review progress of campaigns.
