SIALKOT – Expressing grave concern over the shortage of fertilisers, farmers have feared that there would be 50 percent reduction in the wheat yield this year. Talking to newsmen here Wednesday, local growers, Ch Mumtaz Bajwa, Ch Rehmat Hussain Bajwa, Ch Muhammad Azam, Ch Abdul Wahid, Ch Muhammad Saleem and Ch Javaid, said dealers have created the artificial shortage of fertilisers in the district’s all the four tehsils, Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur, while wheat growers have been facing a great inconvenience.
They said the dealers and hoarders had created an artificial shortage of the fertilisers. They alleged the district government had miserably failed to curb the menace. The perturbed farmers also alleged some dealers were selling urea fertilisers at the rate of Rs 1,300 per bag against its actual fixed price of Rs 1,050 per bag.
They urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Wahla and Sialkot DCO Mujahid Sher Dil to take serious notice of this situation to save the farmers from the clutches of the fertiliser dealers.
