Police in Pakistan has become synonymous with the criminals. Police officers are considered as dacoits, robbers, killers and extortionists. This perception is not totally misplaced.
But the truth is that every police officer is supposed to perform responsible work involving the protection and safety of community through prevention and control of crime, by preserving peace, regulating traffic, and providing emergency services. He must maintain current working knowledge of professional law enforcement methods, weapons, and applicable laws and regulations, and provides some training to other officers.
They are not supposed to side with the criminals and become like them. They must help the oppressed and the victim in getting justice swiftly. Just as the police have a responsibility towards the nation, the citizens do as well. As citizens of Pakistan, we must try to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies of the country. It is the need of the hour to avoid laxity to give free hand to terrorist organisations. Cooperation with the police force will bridge the trust deficit amongst people and the police for the better of Pakistan.
