ISLAMABAD – The opposition parties on Monday called for a shift in the country’s foreign policy, saying a faulty and flawed policy was resulting into incidents like the Lahore killings by Raymond Davis.
On a point of order, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, “The government has placed Pakistan into a situation where the US is our master and we are its slaves. Had there been no public pressure, the government would have handed over Raymond to the US. The rulers should tell how the driver and his accomplice involved in killing Ibadur Rehman reached the US,” he argued.
Referring to the prime minister’s statement on Raymond issue, Fazl said though the PM claimed of making no compromise on the sovereignty, yet he did not respond to the points raised by PML-Q leader Faisal Saleh Hayat. “If our policy is not reviewed, more incidents like Raymond Davis and Dr Aafia Siddiqui would occur in future,” he opined.
Earlier, Faisal Saleh Hayat asked the government to make it clear whether Raymond Davis enjoyed diplomatic immunity or not. “The entire country today is in an unclear over the issue of diplomatic immunity to Davis. Why the government does not come up with a clear stance over the issue and why it has sought more time in the court,” he asked.
