ISLAMABAD – Warning the government of another long march in case PML-N’s all options failed to bring government on the right track, party central leader Ahasan Iqbal on Monday said the country was facing a “failed regime”, as the government had totally failed to overcome crises created by former military dictator Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf.
Addressing a news conference at the PML-N secretariat, he said it was the PML-N which had pressed the government to oust Musharraf from the Presidency and helped restore and strengthen the democratic process. He called the recent arrest warrant issued for Musharraf in the Benazir murder a “drama”. “The PPP wants to hoodwink its workers who always demand punishment of Benazir’s killers,” he added.
Reacting to the recent remarks of Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza, Ahsan said the PML-N agenda was drafted keeping in view public grievances and expectations from the democratic government, and the PPP leader’s comments were shameful. He said instead of showing progress during the 45 day period, the government was making erroneous statements just to implicate the PML-N leadership.
Ahsan said the people of Sindh were dignified and would not allow anyone to sabotage PML-N offices in Sindh. “Who has the authority to destroy PML-N offices in any area?” he asked, adding that PML-N was not an ordinary party which could be frightened by “such foolish statements”.
Ahsan said the PML-N would be more popular in Sindh than in Punjab because it was the only party who fought for the rights of Sindhis.
“If the PPP does not take any action against the Sindh home minister, it would be confirmed that the PPP leadership was backing him all along,” he said. He said the government was following ill-advices of its so-called advisors that had put the economy at stake. Ahsan said serious efforts were needed to overcome the crises. He said inflation and unemployment was higher than anytime in the country’s history.
The PML-N leader said according to the Charter of Democracy, the government and opposition would have to accept the national character of each other, both government and opposition would extend their all out efforts to eradicate corruption from all departments in order to overcome inflation.
