LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Monday sought assistance of deputy attorney general (DAG) on 2 petitions requesting shifting of Raymond to Lahore and confiscating his diplomatic record, if any, in before it is tempered by the government to save Raymond.
The petitions were field by Advocate Rana Ilamudin and Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey. Chief justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry after hearing arguments of the petitioner counsels handed over copies of the petitions to DAG Naveed Inayat Mali for preparation/reply.
The CJ asked the DAG to argue on the government’s behalf on the all the petitions on Raymond Davis immunity issue on March 14. Advocate Rana Ilamudin Ghazi beseeched that directions be issued to shift double murder accused Raymond Davis to Lahore Fort and ask Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to hold inquiry in his case. He said as the jail is far from the city and this distance could help the accused in fleeing.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey submitted that all certified copies of diplomatic record, if any ,of Raymond Allen Davis be submitted to the court immediately to stop issuance of the same in the backdates by way of forgery and tempering. Jaffrey said in the larger interests of the justice the court should issue a preemptive order to the government against possible tempering of US citizen’s record for his benefit.
Ilamudin Ghazi alleged that accused Davis was in Pakistan on special mission which could be harmful for solidarity of the country. He said in both cases against him – murder case and a case for having illegal weapons – investigation should be conducted by the ISI.
He said the accused was spending his days of detention as a guest as his ‘residence’ in Kot Lakhpat Jail. He said he was provided with facilities of mobile phone, TV, and all other necessities of life as if he was guest of Pakistan. He alleged that America wanted his early release fearing that he would reveal secrets of their secret missions in Pakistan or about drone attacks.
He said after his arrest, drone attacks stopped as if he was providing assistance in this regard to the US forces. He alleged that America could even launch an operation for release of Davis. He said there were several instances when America had taken action against sovereignty of different countries. He said the US authorities arrested Noriega, Panama’s army chief, on January 3, 1990 for challenging America’s authority.
Ghazi also alleged that America managed assassination of former prime minister of Pakistan Liaqat Ali Khan for visiting Russian after he refused the visit the US. He also alleged that the US managed hanging of former prime minister of Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for trying to make Pakistan a nuclear power.
He said documents recovered from Davis have proved that he was mastermind of terrorists. He said he was a trained shooter and this expertise is not necessary for an ambassador. He said for its own benefit, the US could attempt to get him released or even killed.
He said no stone should be left unturned for his protection, which is impossible at Kot Lakhpat Jail adding that it was necessary to hand over him to the ISI so that no one could kidnap him and he also could not flee from the jail.
