PSM workers union clarifies Qureshi nomination

KARACHI – Regarding news item published in Daily Pakistan Today, Karachi, on February 12, 2011, it is clarified that nomination of Shamshad Qureshi by the approval of Prime Minister of Pakistan as member Board of Directors of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) is highly appreciated and admired by workers of the PSM.
Qureshi is the Chairman of Pakistan Steel Peoples Workers Union (CBA) and under his leadership Peoples Workers Union got a hat trick in PSM referendums for determination of CBA, PSPWU got 66 percent votes in 1995, 86 percent in 2008 and 96 percent in 2010. He had never been involved or nominated in any corruption case of PSM especially in the said canteen corruption case, as the FIR is on record as a proof.
Regarding his second nomination in Board of Directors of Pakistan Steel Mills it is mentioned that during his first tenure as member board he played a vital role in solving workers problems, including junior officers’ promotion and regularisation of daily wages and contract employees.
As far as Sher Mohammad Baloch comments are concerned, the Minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani had already denied the allegations on the floor of the National Assembly.
