2,400 cases lying unattended with capital police

ISLAMABAD – Over 2,400 cases of different natures have neither been investigated by the capital police nor have the criminals been arrested, prompting fears that this could result in an increase in crimes.
Of 2,407 pending cases, 397 cases are pending with Margalla Police Station, 340 with Kohsar, 319 with Shalimar, 271 with Aabpara, 208 Shehzad Town, 128 with Bara Kahu, 171 with Industrial Area, 165 with Sabzi Mandi, 101 with Ternol, 99 with Koral, 68 with Sihala, 60 with Secretariat, 40 with Golra, 20 with Nilore Police Station and 20 with Women Police Station, an official source told Pakistan Today.
He said a poor check and balance over the city police stations is one of the main reasons for the rising number of pending cases. “The police high-ups only ask about the cases concerning influential people and do not bother to know about the cases regarding ordinary people,” he said.
The official said Margalla, Kohsar, Shalimar and Aabpara police station s, located in the city urban areas, not only had more number of pending cases but also were on the top for car lifting, robberies and murders. He was of the view that the main reason for the rising crime rate in the capital was a large number of pending cases which were not only encouraging criminals but also leaving a bad impression on the young generation and the society.
The official said lack of proper training and education of the investigation officers assigned the duty of investigating the pending cases was increasing their number with the passage of time. He added lack of resources and equipment with the police department was also another reason for the rising pending cases.
