Sialkot lynching – Court summons witnesses on Feb 25

LAHORE – Two more witnesses of the Sialkot lynching case Saturday recorded their statements in an anti-terrorism court (ATC), which summoned all the witnesses on February 25, a private TV channel reported.
Hearing of the lynching case, in which two brothers were killed by a mob, was held at the Central Jail Gujranwala. Two witnesses, Shehzad, a journalist, and Sakhawat Ali recorded their statements, while defence lawyers also completed their cross-examination. According to the sources, the court is likely to issue final verdict on the case next month.
Former district police officer Sialkot Waqar Chohan and former inspector Rana Ilyas, besides 25 others accused in the case, also attended the proceedings the on court orders. Chohan filed an application to get exemption from the court hearings on medical grounds after which the judge summoned the medico-legal officer of Allama Iqbal Hospital Dr Azhar to assist the court in the matter.
Six months have passed since the tragic lynching of Hafiz Mughees and Muneeb and despite being assured of justice by the top officials, including the president, the family continues to await justice.
