LAHORE – Punjab’s physically challenged children are being deprived of facilities they were granted during the previous government, former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said on Saturday. The Punjab government has denied zakat to orphans since 2008 and now has refused to help support the disabled which was condemnable, said Elahi, senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q.
He said that these decisions come in contempt of the Punjab governments trumpeting of the Danish schools project while it, on the other hand, withdraws required assistance to the schools for the physically challenged children in the province. He said that it has been many weeks since the handicapped children had not been able to go to their schools because of the suspension of the government provided pick and drop facility to them.
He said that the disabled children and their parents were widely condemning the Punjab rulers for their lack of compassion and genuine sympathy for the deprived sections of the society. He said that on asking the children and their parents were being informed by their schools of the suspension of free transport facility due to non provision of funds by the Punjab government.
