LAHORE – Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey on Saturday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court asking that all certified copies of diplomatic record, if any of Raymond Allen Davis be submitted to the court immediately to stop issuance of the same in the backdates by way of forgery and tempering.
Barrister Jaffrey contended that the court should issue a preemptive order to the federal government against possible tempering of US citizen’s record for his benefit in the larger interests of justice. He alleged that the government of Pakistan was using devious devices to buoy “US killer Raymond [Davis] and there is a possibility that he may be rescued by fake diplomatic documents”.
He doubted that the US government and the government of Pakistan might use an identical name for Davis’ benefit. He said although the court had already restrained the government from shifting Davis out of the Lahore High Court’s jurisdiction, efforts were afoot to frustrate that order by manipulation and tampering of records.
He prayed to the court that certified copies of all the documents and the relevant record be presented in the court with the signature of the accused’s counsels so that there were no chances of fraud and forgery.
Barrister Jaffrey submitted that the federal government was intending to give immunity to Davis under the Vienna Convention, which was illegal and constitutional. He said the accused’s name, Raymond Allen Davis, which was put on the exit control list (ECL) on February 3 was a fake identity which necessitated that his photographs be provided to all airports and exit points throughout Pakistan. He also prayed that Davis should not be removed from the district of Lahore until further notice and without prior permission of the court.
