KARACHI – The Joint Action Committee of Doctors (JACD) has condemned the thrashing of a doctor at the Sindh Government Hospital, Saudabad. In a press statement issued on Saturday, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Karachi President and JACD Chairman Dr M Idress Adhi stated that a hostile group of people, armed with wooden sticks, barged into the office of Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) Dr Kazim Raza.
They beat up the doctor and warned him that he should not come to the hospital from the next day. “We demand that the government and police should provide security to doctors in every hospital,” said Adhi, adding that how could doctors work in such a hostile environment which lacks security as persons enter the hospitals carrying guns.
“The doctors are already working on very low salaries and leaving the country in search of good jobs,” said Adhi. He said the doctors are being killed, harassed and threatened for life while being attacked and assaulted on duty. “If this goes on, the doctors would have no option but to start agitation or leave the country,” he said.
