KARACHI – Sindh Chief Secretary Sindh Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha advised district coordination officers (DCOs) on Saturday to expedite the rehabilitation process of the flood survivors in the affected districts.
He also asked DCOS to ensure that no outsiders or influential people avail the benefits meant for the flood survivors. The chief secretary was addressing a meeting at the Sindh Secretariat. Rehabilitation Minister Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Adviser to Chief Minister on Planning and Development Dr Dr Kaiser Bengali and Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Ishaq Lashari also attended the meeting.
Pasha categorically noted that all rehabilitation work, including housing, must be processed and implemented transparently. He advised the Sindh Land Management Committee project director to coordinate with the Rehabilitation, Planning and Development departments and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and frame a concrete policy for rapid housing of the flood survivors. The chief secretary also advised the DCOs to complete the process of land identification, in consultation with all stakeholders, without further delay.
The rehabilitation minister pointed out that rehabilitation work has to be carried out within the available resources. NADRA authorities informed the participants of the meeting that the Watan Cards have been issued to 558,293 flood survivors so far and 14,625 cards in the process of verification would be issued shortly.
Senior officials of ZTBL assured the participants of the meeting that their bank would systematically render its services as and when the housing frame work is finalised.
