PESHAWAR – After terminating contractual officers on the orders of Supreme Court, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will now have to deal with senior police officers who have decided to approach apex court over its decision to post junior officers on senior positions.
From DIG to SHO level, important slots are occupied by the corps while Senior PSP officers have been made officers on Special Duty (OSD), sources informed the Pakistan Today. DSP’s (BS 17) are heading the police force in the important and sensitive districts of Mardan, Charsadda, Swat, Dir and Shangla as District Police Officer (DPO). DPO is generally a 19 Grade post.
Mardan and Charsadda are the home towns of Chief Minister KP Ameer Haider Hoti and ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan respectively, while Swat is undergoing a full flag operation against insurgents since last two years. Similarly junior DSP’s have been made acting SP Peshawar Cantt City while inspectors are working as DSP’s in the majority districts of the KP.
Most of these postings are made on the recommendations of the leaders of ANP/PPP, a ruling alliance in KP, a source confined. In worst cases, head constables have been given out of turn promotions and got them posted as SHO’s across the province.
According a to a police source, whenever an illiterate Police constable performed extra ordinary and show bravery, police high ups promote such a corps to the rank of head Constable (HC), which is commonly called HC C2 in their department, but now it’s become a joke in KP Police that there is a mushroom growth of C2 higher officers in the province.
A senior Police officer asking not to be named while defending the policy said that KP Police is short of senior and competent police officers and this is the reason that juniors have been posted on the senior positions. While on other hand the police source informed that majority of the dishearten senior police officers have deserted the province to serve in FIA, Motorway and Highway Police and UN Missions abroad while few with no right connections have made their mind to knock the doors of the Supreme Court against this pick and choose policy of the KP Police bosses.
