LAHORE/DASKA – The government will not be given more time to implement the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s 10-point agenda, party chief Nawaz Sharif said on Friday. Chairing a meeting of PML-N workers from Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur and Sialkot at his Model Town residence, Nawaz said he was disappointed with the government’s slow pace of the progress of implementation, adding that its failure to carry out the reforms could derail democracy in the country.
The deadline set by the PML-N for the implementation of the agenda is February 22. Tension runs high among political circles prophesying that this time Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani would not be successful in buying more time from the PML-N. The PML-N government in Punjab is at no risk after the Punjab Assembly speaker granted parliamentary party status to the Unification Bloc.
Now, in case the PPP parts ways with the provincial government, the PML-N would have the support of the Unification Bloc to save its government in Punjab. Regarding the Raymond Davis issue, Nawaz said the PML-N upheld the rule of law on the sensitive issue. According to sources, party workers advised Nawaz to get rid of the PPP, on which he assured them that all decisions would be made according to the wishes of PML-N workers.
The meeting also reviewed party reorganisation issues and decided to give frontline role to workers who sacrificed for the party and democracy.
