Gilani promises govt will focus on backward areas

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday promised to take every step to address the deprivation of the backward and underdeveloped regions of the country. Talking to the vice-chancellor (VC) of the Hazara University, the prime minister described education as a priority sector of his government, saying it was key to solve of all problems faced by the country including extremism and terrorism.
He appreciated Higher Education Commission (HEC)’s efforts for compiling a Seraiki Dictionary for the first time in history. Gilani instructed to prepare a feasibility reports for establishing an information technology (IT) University in Hazara and construction of students hostels and staff colony at the Hazara University.
The premier accepted the invitation by the vice-chancellor to grace the annual convocation of the varsity. HEC Chairman Javed R Leghari and Vice-Chancellor Hazara University Prof Dr Syed Sakhawat Shah thanked Gilani for his support. Earlier, the HEC chairman apprised the prime minister about the progress of work in the establishment of IT universities in FATA, DG Khan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir besides an engineering university in Multan.
The VC Hazara University informed Gilani that 50 to 60 percent work on campus building had been completed and requested help in completion of the remaining project.
