LAHORE – Termed as the fifth sexiest Asian man by a UK magazine Eastern eye, Ali Zafar has leapt audiences at home and internationally in a thrall. None can deny his charisma and unmatched proficiency in various domains. He pursued his degree in painting, went on to modelling, stepped into the world of singing and is currently gaining much recognition for his outstanding ability to sing soulfully and perform boldly on the big screen.
He played bass guitars for Hadiqa Kiyani’s ‘Zindagi’ and acted in Abrar-ul-Haq’s ‘Preeto’ music video. Perhaps the lesser known fact is that in the music video of ‘Agg’ from his album ‘Masty’, Ali Zafar himself did the opera style singing in female voice. Coming to his song writing knack, it is noteworthy that Ali composed the entire song ‘Daastan-e-Ishq’ just a night before the recording!
Last year, Ali decided to lend his talent to Bollywood in ‘Tere Bin Laden’ which had him in the lead role. It received much appreciation from the film fraternity and big shots like Amir Khan, Salman Khan and Karan Johar couldn’t help noticing this young boy from Pakistan who is so loaded with talent. Despite opting to work in an Indian movie, Ali never compromised on patriotism, “‘Tere bin Laden’ is a very pro-Pakistan movie and that’s why I decided to do it”.
Though this movie was banned from being showcased in Pakistan, Ali remained confident about his choice nonetheless. Ever since the success of TBL, Ali has read nearly 40 movie scripts and apparently Ali is also Aditya Chopra’s favourite for ‘Dhoom 3’. Currently he is working on his new film with Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif, “The movie, ‘Mere brather ki dulhan’ is in its final stage of shooting and I and Imran are playing brothers in it.
It will be released this year in the summer,” revealed the star in an exclusive interview. He also disclosed that he has been signed for another Bollywood movie by a very famous director, which will be announced soon. Talking about balance, Ali ensured that his family is not neglected and he took his wife along at the Zee Cine Awards recently held in Singapore.
As he claims, “Ayesha is a huge part of my success. I’m not one of those celebrities who hide the fact that they’re married. My woman has a very strong role to play in my life and I wanted her to be there when I was experiencing things.” Though he lost the award for the Best Debut Male, “I’m not at all sad, I somehow knew that I wouldn’t get it, but it is a big thing to be nominated for your first movie.”
Ali is looking forward to working on more projects in India, but when asked if he’d like to feature on the next season of ‘Bigg Boss’, the star smiled as he promptly replied, “No I wouldn’t.” Besides his Bollywood projects, Ali is currently promoting his album ‘Jhoom’ which was released this Monday by his own record label ‘Alif Records’. “I didn’t want my people back home to feel that I had neglecting them and that’s why I ensured that the launch was a big event. I do have great expectation from this album, but I will let the people be the judge.”
The title song of the album got more than 50,000 hits on Youtube in less than 48 hours and that tells how people are responding to it. Apart from his album and movies, Ali was recently chosen to sing motivational songs for the most popular sport of the sub-continent. One song is titled ‘Jazba’ while the other, which is the official cricket World Cup song, is titled “Yeh Dunya Hai Dil Walon Ki”.
Ali is a youth icon and when we explore the immense talent in this 30-year old it is no surprise that he was chosen for these songs. Indeed, at a very young age Ali has already made a huge contribution to the entertainment industry and it is impressive how he maintains balance in everything he does.
