A man sells balance

Balance is a state of equilibrium; a state from which springs confidence; a state which every batsman yearns for. And this man sells balance. Following in his father’s footsteps, Fayyaz started to master the art of cricket bat making in 1979 in Sialkot. Getting into the soul of a cricketing shot and realising the need of a grip that a seasoned batsman requires, he asked his father to acquaint him with just the right timber which may firm grounds for a well balanced bat.
With the timber machined and grind to perfection and the blade ready for customisation after pressing, Fayyaz makes use of his somewhat clairvoyant skills to polish and rasp the blade. The task is not easy, but for someone like Fayyaz, who has it in his genes, finds it most amusing and treats it like a religious duty. He makes sure that while he tampers with the wood to a batsman’s need, he leaves just the right amount of the most suitable wood in the driving area; the juicy meat of the bat, the birthplace of a nicely timed shot.
Fayyaz has his bat making establishment in Lahore, a place where he moved to after migrating from Sialkot in 1982. He owns a sports shop and is someone who manufactures and repairs cricket bats for renowned batsmen from around the world.
