ISLAMABAD – Former Punjab governor and lawyer for Walters Power International and its associate Pakistan Power Resources (PPR), on Tuesday requested the Supreme Court to direct the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to finalise power tariff for rental power companies at the earliest.
The case of Rental Power Projects (RPPs) was fixed before a four-member Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, however, it could not be taken up for regular hearing. When the case was being de-listed and adjourned for an indefinite period, Hamid told the court that on the previous hearing, the bench had directed NEPRA to finalise power tariff, but nothing had been done so far.
The court then directed Najmul Hassan Kazmi, lawyer for NEPRA, to look into the matter and ask his client to decide the matter as early as possible. Hamid told the court that Walter’s RPPs Naudero-1 was in running condition, whereas the machinery for Naudero-II had been imported, however, due to the non-fixation of power tariff by NEPRA, both the projects were suffering.
