SIALKOT – Valentine’s Day was partially celebrated in Sialkot as people, especially youngsters, were witnessed in a large number at flower shops, but there was no significant activity in the educational institutions regarding the day. Many college and university students in colourful clothes marked the day along with their loved ones in parks, hotels and other public places.
The Garrison Park was filled with young couples, especially in the evening. The reports also revealed that a large number of families, however, prevented their children from visiting such places and many others expressed their anger over the festival while talking to Pakistan Today.
Sialkot Govt College for Women imposed a ban on Valentine’s Day celebrations, deployed teachers and guards at the college’s main gate to check gifts in the students’ bags and strictly warned them against holding any gathering to celebrate the day.
A 22-year-old veiled student, Almas Chaudhry, said the college students had shown hatred for such shameful and sinful act that led to the western society which was a hub of illegal relations among youth.
