Rahat Fateh Ali released

NEW DELHI – Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was released on Monday, 28 hours after he was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport with a huge amount of foreign currency. According to media reports, Rahat has surrendered his passport to the Indian authorities.
He and two others – Maroof and Chitresh Shirivastava – have been asked to appear before the Department of Revenue Intelligence on February 17. Indian authorities are investigating the source of the money that the singer was carrying. Khan, the nephew of legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, was held at the airport after cash amount of $124,000 was recovered from his possession.
Our correspondent from New Delhi reported that Rahat was released after Pakistan’s Ambassador to India Shahid Malik made hectic efforts and used his influence in the Indian External Affairs Ministry. The singer has been moved to a local hotel where Malik met him and assured him of all possible help to resolve the issue.
