LAHORE – A decision was taken on Monday to enforce strict measures to check ‘obscene’ dances, dual meaning sentences and vulgarity in commercial dramas and stage shows and owners of theatres and cinemas would be held responsible for violation of this code of conduct.
This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Punjab Culture Minister Dr Tanvirul Islam Rana. The Punjab home special secretary informed the meeting that an amended draft of the Drama Act 2010 has been finalised and sent to the Punjab government for approval in which proposals for enhancement of sentences and fines on violation of rules have been included.
The meeting expressed concern that some elements, just for minting more and more money, are continuously violating Pakistan’s ‘cultural values,’ through dual meaning sentences while vulgar language is freely used by so-called artists against each other which was creating a very negative impact on the youth. Various proposals came under discussion to improve the situation and provide opportunities of healthy entertainment to people.
The meeting decided that the home department would conduct a secret survey of all commercial theatres and cinemas throughout the province by district coordination officers (DCO) and a report would be submitted within a month and in light of which a summary would be sent to the Punjab CM. Efforts would also be put in for getting early approval of the amended Drama Act 2010 from the Punjab Assembly.
