KARACHI – The Sindh government on Monday imposed a two-day ban on motorcycle pillion riding and carrying weapons in the city ahead of 12th Rabiul Awal. It would not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, disabled persons, journalists, law enforcing agencies personnel in uniform and the employees of essential services. Through another notification, the Home Department re-imposed the ban on carrying all kinds of weapons from Monday midnight until February 16 midnight under the CrPC Section 144.
All permission letters allowing relaxation for carrying weapons stand suspended.
All station house officers have been authorised to register complaints under the law in case the ban is violated. The Sindh home department had also banned pillion riding last month for a week following the increasing number of targeted killings in Karachi. More than 600 people were violating the ban during that week.
