KARACHI – A reshuffle in the top slots of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was reported on Monday, as the new managing director of the national flag of his office.
It has been learnt that Captain Ilyas, a pilot, replaced Shuja Naqvi as the Director Flight Operations (DFO) while Senior General Manager (GM) Communication Captain Haroon Abdullah resigned from his position.
Similarly, former Director Administration Haneef Pathan was also re-inducted for the same slot after Chairman PIA Ahmed Mukhtar, also DefenCe Minister, extended his service for two years, while another retired employee Zafar Rajput would also be inducted as media advisor, sources informed Pakistan Today.
According to sources, Shuja Naqvi and Haroon Abdullah tendered their resignations Monday after they were directed to do so. Haneef Pathan had retired in January but he managed to get extension from Ahmed Mukhtar. It is worth mentioning that the former MD PIA did not let Pathan to resume his job as he had bypassed him for getting the extension.
Zafar Rajput, the new media advisor, has been working in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the same capacity after his retirement from PIA some two years ago. When contacted, the official spokesperson of the airlines confirmed that the resignations and said Captain Ilyas’ appointment as the new DFO would be confirmed once a notification was issued by the management.
It is pertinent to mention that the PIA has 17 directors and each of them receives Rs 2 million a month in terms of salary, while the salary of the MD is Rs 2.4 million and that of Boeing 777’s pilot is Rs 1.1 million.
