‘PIA will outfight competition’

LAHORE – Officials of the national flag carrier have to team up and make the airline profitable. Pakistan International Airline (PIA) is not afraid from the prevailing competition in aviation industry. This was stated by PIA Managing Director Nadeem Khan Yousufzai, while meeting representatives of the Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JAC).
He assured the JAC representatives management support and said that the PIA would provide better facilities to PIA employees. He, however, stressed that PIA management would strictly follow the performance on merit. He underlined that employees welfare schemes would continue, including housing scheme, education allowance for children, conveyance loans, marriage allowance to needy employees, utility credit allowance, etc. He pointed that establishment of a PIA Foundation was his long awaited dream and the project would start soon.
This would benefit all employees but especially retired and added that some non-core activities would be transferred to the PIA Foundation, which would not only generate revenues but would also result in saving for the airline. Pakistan Airline Pilot Association President and JAC Convener Sohail Baluch extended full support to the newly appointed PIA managing director. He also announced to give a portion of pilots salary for the staff (employees of pay groups I – IV) of the airline.
Representatives of JAC included PALPA General Secretary Captain TM Rabbani, Society of Aircraft Engineers (SAEP) President Shaukat Jamshed, SAEP General Secretary Zakir Farooq, Aziz Suharwardy and Nadeem Afgan, Flight Engineers Association (FENA) Najeeb Khan and others.
