FAISALABAD – A drink party ended in nightmare when a man died and his brother and friend were taken to a hospital in serious condition after drinking poisonous liquor. Reportedly, two brothers Ashiq Hussain and Kashif Hussain, residents of Chak No 68 JB, and their friend Muhammad Boota from the same village arranged a drink party at their Dera.
They consumed an overdose of home-made liquor and slipped into coma after which they were taken to a hospital where Ashiq Hussain died while Kashif Hussain and Mohammad Boota were in critical condition. Thikriwala police handed over the dead body to his next of kin and were investigating the case. The police were looking for the man who sold the poisonous liquor to the victims.
Death through poisonous liquor is a common phenomenon in Pakistan because drinkers have to rely on illegal liquor suppliers operating secretly due to the social taboo. The sources say these bootleggers blend very toxic chemicals with the wine that often cause deaths as the manufacturing formula is extremely harmful to human health, but there is no check on it and due to religious sentiments, nobody dares to demand the standardised supply of liquor in the country.
