KARACHI – Justice Mushir Alam – a senior judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC) – took oath as the SHC chief justice (CJ) on Monday. Alam has been appointed the new chief justice after President Asif Ali Zardari appointed former SHC CJ Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim as judges in the Supreme Court on the recommendation of the Judicial Commission.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad administered the oath to Alam at an oath-taking ceremony which was held at the SHC premises. Addressing the ceremony, Chief Justice Mushir Alam said that the judiciary will ensure providing justice to the masses on priority basis while the judicial system would be improved at all levels as all steps have been taken to enhance the integrity of the judiciary.
Commenting over the issue of low wages in the lower court staff members across the province, Alam said the matter was still pending with the provincial government and if it could not consider the matter soon, the court will take the decision in this regard.
The ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, Pir Mazharul Haq, Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani, acting chief secretary Ghulam Pasha, SHC judges and other government and judicial officials.
Office-bearers of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association, Malir Bar Association, Hyderabad Bar Association and other bar associations of Sindh were also present on the occasion.
