LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Monday warned Pakistan Railways (PR) authorities, if the department remains unable to pay salaries to its legal advisors, huge residences of officials at Mayo Garden would be sold for this purpose.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed made these observations after Railways’ legal advisor Sarfraz Cheema stated that salaries have been paid to some legal advisors only. Railways sought time to pay salaries to rest of the legal advisors as department is facing serious financial difficulties.
The court was hearing a case against non-payment of salaries to 60 legal advisors of Railways. Advocate Arshad Virk has moved the petition saying that it has become impossible for the legal advisors to meet daily expenses as they have not been paid salaries for two years.
On last hearing, the court had also warned the Railways officials of holding back salaries from grade 17 to Grade 22 officers in case the respondents are not paid by the said date. The court deferred the case by February 24.
