LAHORE – Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) will do its best to curtail load-shedding on Eid Milladun Nabi, said PEPCO Energy and Management Conservation (EMC) Director General Muhammad Khalid, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday. He said PEPCO had instructed the distribution companies to take action against electricity pilferers during the Eid Miladun Nabi.
He said fancy lights had increased load by around 200 megawatt. He promised that load-shedding would not increase in the coming days, as gas plant and hydel generation will increase. “Though it is a religious event but no one will be allowed to steal electricity in the name of lighting streets,” he said.
He briefed the load-shedding hours of different distribution companies: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO); two to four hours, Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (GEPCO), Multan Electric Supply Company (MEPCO) and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO); four to six hours, Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO); five to six hours, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO); five to eight hours and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO); three to five hours.
He said shortfall has increased in the recent days owing to closure of certain power plants including Rosch and Uch. “These power plants are expected to begin production soon,” he added. He said electricity generation was 10,540 MW with demand at 11,660 MW producing a 1,120 MW shortfall.
