KARACHI – By the end of March 2011, five more departments would be transferred to the provinces and the process of devolution would complete by June 30, 2011, Federal Inter-Provincial Coordination Minister Raza Rabbani told Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Monday.
The federal minister and the chief minister were discussing matters related to the transfer of various departments of the federal government to provinces at the Chief Minister’s House. According to an official handout, the chief minister informed the federal minister about the issues including financial implications, discussing in detail the matters of properties, assets and liabilities.
.Rabbani said that mutual understanding among the provinces was necessary for good governance, as after the implementation of the 18th Amendment, the devolution plan is to be adopted which is in fact a legislative devolution. “Previously, the government was run on strengthening the Centre, but under the present constitution, the provinces have been strengthened and provincial autonomy is being termed as the security to federation,” he said.
Measures to control rising prices were also discussed in the meeting.
