140 section officers re-employed, SC told

ISLAMABAD – A seven-member special bench of the Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday that 140 section officers had been re-employed after retirement to meet the requirements. The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, was hearing a suo motu case against alleged corruption in Haj arrangements.
Appearing on notice Secretary Establishment Division Abdur Rauf Chaudhry told the court that these section officers were re-employed due to a ban on recruitment for the last eight years. He said the officers from District Management Group (DMG) did not join such posts, thus they had to hire retired officers on contract basis.
He said however as part of direct recruitment, 30 fresh candidates have been inducted through Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), whereas fifty each would be inducted in next two phases,” he said. “When these posts had sanctioned budget, why he was not asking for requisition and inducting people from far flung areas through FPSC”, the chief justice asked the secretary.
