KARACHI – Three teenage boys were killed when a passenger bus hit their motorcycle near Akbar Road in Saddar on Sunday afternoon. Fourteen-year-old Adeel Waseem and Sami Javed and Taimur Ghulam Nabi, both 13 years old – were on their way to see their friend in Saddar when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding passenger bus, killing two of the boys on the spot.
The deceased and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where the third boy succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding. Following the incident, the bus driver managed to escape; however, the passengers disembarked the bus and tried taking the boys to the hospital. The efforts of the passengers and area residents proved unsuccessful as the ambulance arrived late on the scene. Enraged passengers and area residents set the bus on fire in the presence of police personnel.
The law enforcers tried to disperse the crowd, but the incensed protesters attacked the police and forced them to leave. Vehicular traffic on Akbar Road was suspended for hours due to incident. Saddar TPO Irshad Ali Sehar told Pakistan Today that the incident took place near Akbar Road where a passenger bus of route No 2-D bearing registration No JE-1427 hit a motorcycle bearing registration No KDT-1322 at around 2:30pm.
“The three boys riding the motorcycle were killed, whereas the bus driver managed to escape. Police have impounded the motorcycle and the burnt bus, and started conducting raids in various areas of the city arrest the driver responsible,” the TPO said. He said that the police have also approached the owner of the passenger bus so the culprit could be brought to book soon.
The bodies of the victims have been handed over to their heirs after completing the legal formalities, he added. The three teenagers were residents of Railway Colony and their parents are employees of the Pakistan Railways.
